Musical Chairs with Cell Phones…I settled with the Treo, again.
Rather than juggle a phone and a PDA everywhere I needed to go, I decided it was time to consolidate again, my problem? I had a budget of $100-$120, the price i would get for the phone I would be selling….what to do?
After the end of my internship I was able to keep a used Treo 650 that I was fortunate to have been able to use while at work. I must say that despite some glitches here and there it was overall a great phone/PDA to have manage my every day life. Once the internship ended, the phone service was cancelled so I was left with a locked AT&T Treo, which was no good for me since their phone plans are a bit too pricey, I’m a frugal guy. I settled with T-Mobile’s Prepaid 5 Faves Plan (awesome deal – no data plan [remember? frugality.]).
After switching to T-Mobile, I was able to get a great deal on an unlocked Blackberry Pearl 8100. I really liked the phone. The PDA aspect wasn’t the best, but then again, it’s not really a PDA phone. The applications were good, I didn’t like the non-touch screen and managing calendars and memos without a full QWERTY keyboard was like pulling teeth. Turns out I just ended up carrying my Treo with me everywhere I went.
When I decided to switch to a new phone I needed to keep my current plan with T-Mobile and I absolutely REFUSED to sign up for a long-term commitment just to get a discount on a phone. i logged on to e-Bay and bought an unlocked Treo 650. Problem solved.
I’ve loved the versatility of the Treo. I know that it’s not the latest and greatest thing out there but it’s a solid, work-focused PDA phone. The touchscreen is a beauty and I love having the full keyboard. Keeping notes and managing contacts, phone, memos, and more. Life is much better now. Eventualy I will move to a better, faster, more gadgetty phone but for now I’ve running mean and lean with the Treo 650.
