Make more money, market to big people.
My sister recently wrote a blog article about how difficult it is to shop at the mall if you are a larger sized person. Most shops at the mall tend to stock mostly smaller sizes since most of their clients are smaller-sized people. I wonder though, if this decision ends up costing them a huge area of business.
Think of it, first of all, you have all of the larger-sized people who have never been able to shop at American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Forever 21, Express, <INSERT_YOUR_FAV_MALL_STORE_HERE>. All of these people who have had to resort to shopping online or from a big & tall store suddently would flood the malls to purchase the latest fashions they’ve never been able to do so before. And believe me, they would SPEND! Just imagine, 10+ years since you had the latest in fashion?
After the initial rush, you then would have the long-term business from rich, big (FAT) people. Don’t get me wrong, I fall into that category (XL-XXL) so I am not discriminating, but I watch the financial news and see lots of rich people who are overweight. But then again, caviar, expensive drinks, GOOD food, etc. you can’t help but to put on some lbs.
Limiting your clientele like mall stores do now is like a grocery store but only selling italian food. Sure, there are a lot of people who eat italian food. But what about those who don’t like italian food? How about some chinese food? Maybe some good-old fashioned American food?
With the economic downturn recently you would think that companies would do everything possible to maximize revenue. This is a very large (no pun intended) market that yet remains to be marketed to by retail stores at the mall.
